Yeah good point. I think the short position is the biggest influence on the price. Without sufficient interest in the stock, shorters can easily supress it, and scare off the longs.
A large portion of shorts was added around recent announcements for EXIM and the CRs. In fact, Gandals long investment in the CR could be hedged by a short by his broker, for Gandal himself, who knows. The big question is who's selling shorts on a stock with little upside recently. They can't manifest the contract out of thin air. Some broker would imagine it to be a good investment for themselves to sell the short contracts, so why wouldn't they put some buying pressure on it ? You'd need a 4 Corners investigation to solve that riddle.
What's important is sufficient buying pressure to cause the broker to get worried. One other fund with a long term interest in the company would cause a buying war and raise the SP quickly.
Hanging out for another metals plant in the US, I think May approximately. In recent emails with the company, they indicated that the approval was a few months off.
In regards to the bots, anyone can set up automated software and link it to the exchange to buy and sell off algos, so it's not necessarily as sinister as it seems from my experience.
