If we use the Vanguard Australian Shares fund (ASX300) as an example the PDS states

The S&P/ASX 300 Index includes the large cap, mid cap and small cap components of the S&P/ASX index family. The Fund will
hold all of the securities in the index most of the time, allowing for individual security weightings to vary marginally from the index
from time to time. The Fund may invest in securities that have been removed from or are expected to be included in the index.

They would perhaps not wish to pull the trigger until 100% confirmed that a stock is to be included in the index and my understanding is that will be announced tomorrow. The change in the index composition to formally remove old and include new stocks is from the 3rd Friday in September.
If included the next couple of weeks should answer the question of how much influence the ASM inclusion in the ASX300 will have.
