Pretty clear statement from the shorts, if you ask me. Good luck to 'em, they clearly have the means to take large short positions, and in doing so sell down the SP, but sooner or later they'll need to cover, and I can't imagine many long term holders would even consider selling below $10. IMO the wild card is still Van Eck's holdings – if the lower SP leads to them selling in order to satisfy the criteria of their REMX index, then the shorts will be able to cover easily. Perhaps that's the plan.
