e.g. The raw number of short sales for the 16th were a bit over 500k... but the graph indicates 300k added to the aggregate number. The way I read it is.... on the 16th 500k borrowed shares were sold in the market but 200k were bought back on the same day.

Borrowed shares sold into the market, I think, are definitely employed to drive the price down... although that can only succeed when the sentiment for the stock is vulnerable.

Personally.... I don't have any objections to short selling. They are taking a legitimate risk in the market. My main concern is I like to understand why the price is behaving the way it is ... knowing the stock is being sold down by short sellers (and not by long term holders) is important information in deciding how I might size my own position.
