Hi emmar, sorry for the delayed response. This seems like a specific, and favourable, ruling for ALK investors because, on the ATO website, the general advice is that the date of the demerger becomes the date of acquisition of the demerged share - see

Most of us would prefer to follow the specific rule for ALK as we would have the option of selling earlier, some ASM shares, with a CGT discount.
