Hi @bonge, it does seem odd that the specific ATO ruling on the ASM demerger seems to be in conflict with the general demerger information provided by the ATO.
It might be prudent for any holder who received ASM shares from the demerger, and has, or will trigger a CGT event, to enquire with their accountant as to their specific CGT obligation. The 'ASM demerger specific ATO ruling' does indicate that the acquisition date for CGT purposes is dependant on how the ATO classifies your holding. Some holders who are classified as 'traders' might be subject to a different clause in the ruling.
