It would be far cheaper to get oil out of the ground and sold, compared to all the infrastructure and plants needed for the brine to be processed.
Money made from oil production could be used to build the plants and pay for other costs for Lithium and Bromine to be produced.
It is not uncommon for companies to change tact when there is easy money to be made from another discovery on there leases.
