Our state-run radio and TV is also operated by, guess who - the state, and some of our newspapers have well known links to main political parties.

In Ecuador, they have their right to freedom of speech guaranteed by their consititution which is more than we can say.

Were these comments meant to portray Ecuador as something less than Australia and therfore taint Assange because of his seeking asylum in their embassy?

Not sure that argument is going to sway many.
