TBH, I reckon the shipping time and cost would be prohibitive, if QPM were to continue with their hi grade NC ore, which has been the basis for all their metallurgical studies to tweak the base Direct Nickel concept to TECH spec.

I guess instead we'd be looking at what a Northern US seaboard refinery perhaps as close to a suitable Canadian nickel deposit to minimise shipping and take advantage of made in USA provisions. That would reset the shot clock for all the studies, permitting & financing to begin afresh
Stage 3 perhaps? Stage 4 in Germany!

More likely in my opinion would be a Stage 3 in New Caledonia itself.
Benefits of an expert workforce & zero shipping.
Could possibly decommission an existing plant & use footprint for TECH NC.
Downside would be the power supply upgrades that seem to plague the NC processors at present.
Have they suitable land area for solar/ESS or do they have gas?
Can you imagine an expanded MGP & QPME shipping LNG to NC to power a plant there!

Given the project is at three minutes to midnight, with the continued support of Townsville Council and the QLD Govt, I think we're in the right spot.

Left field thought though:
Is the ore sitting in the Yabulu tailings dam suitable?
Apparently there is close to US $10B in contained Ni, Co & Fe.
Clean it up for you Mayor & Premier!

We'll not leave our NC partners behind either, and will accelerate Stage 3 onshore there....
