IMO any rescue package will look at keeping ore shipments alive short-medium term whilst longer term smelter improvements are made (if smelting is to continue).

Perhaps the French should look west and reach out to our Foreign Minister, EFA, QLD Premier & SG.
The world needs a good news story; one with Aust & French cooperation keeping New Caledonia's main employment industry afloat whilst opening a window into the sector's clean green future through commissioning the first direct nickel processing plant in Townsville sounds pretty good!
