In a marginally topical aside, I watched Mission Impossible II with my daughter a short while ago - the one filmed almost entirely in Sydney. There is a scene when the villain says he is going to release the dreaded ‘Chimera virus’ and infect the entire population of 18 million Australians! Well, I did a double-take of course, and checked Google, but yeah in 2000 (or a bit before when they were filming, only 18 million and something Aussies). Today we’re on the way to 27 million. QLD population has increased by 50% over the same time period. So, I realize of course that LED etc and efficiency of use must also be a factor, but generally you’d expect increasing usage of electricity when the population increases and the resulting industry also flourishes.
