There are potentially at least 3 positive aspects to the entry of CVN to the ASX300,as distinct from the 500 (or not being in either). 1. INSTOS start to take an interest in a mid-cap oiler, where they often have had no interest at all as the latter 2 categories are often (or even usually) considered as illiquid and incapable of being exited at a reasonable rate. 2. INDEX FUNDS. These HAVE to buy the stock upon its entry to the index that their fund is based upon. That is the good news as far as CVN is concerned. My investigations however show that there are no active(as distinct from passive)fund managers in Oz who choose to operate a passive (index) fund based on the ASX 300,they only operate (active)funds where they choose which investments to make on your behalf .However Standard and Poors (who do the work on the indexes under contract to ASX) DO operate a passive fund that is based on the Mining and Metals segment of the ASX 300( an index within an index). By my reckoning Sand P should now be buying CVN for that fund,or will do so in the next 8 trading days. 3. SUPER FUNDS- same comments as for instos (they are instos but worth a mention as its easy to forget that quite a lot do their own investing and they tend to be more conservative than other instos-to them ASX300=conservative,ASX500 and not in the ASX500 =tiddlers that punters play around with).
