No, it’s not Hollywood (or The Castle). It’s just the way it works. It’s difficult for me to conceive of a situation where you wouldn’t use a barrister in an important commercial dispute. We actually used two barristers (a senior and junior) in our matters. ISX will get a good one for about $7k a day. iSX lawyers will do most of the work to prepare the case and the barrister will use that work to prepare the arguments. Maybe a week of prep and a couple of days in court. So counsel might cost them $80k.
