Pumps generally happen when good things are promised and the market sees potential of those good things being realised.
If the good things are realised the price pump will continue, it is when promises of good things are not realised that the market becomes concerned and dumps happen.
To blame the price movements on share price manipulation is tin foil hat stuff used as an excuse for poor management, if the company was successful and earning the profits that were promised and achievable the share price would be much higher no matter what your sinister algos tried to do.
