ASX Ltd halts sharemarket trade after technical issues

ASX Ltd, operator of the Australian Securities Exchange, halted all trading on the market today pending the resolution of a technical difficulty with the trading system.

The company is investigating the problem and has halted trading indefinitely, a spokesman for ASX said.

All trades that have taken place are under review, according to ASX.

ASX Ltd sent out an alert shortly after the market opened at 10am AEDT.

The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was halted after falling 0.3 points to 4242.2, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 0.1 points at 4300.7.

By 10.35am AEDT on the ASX 24, the December share price index futures contract was down 5 points at 4217, with 9369 contracts traded.
