I have yet to hear any argument that supports that short selling is good for a company requiring capital.

If people were not allowed to "lend" their shares and had to part with their voting rights via the share market they would think twice before selling to someone who might not want to give them back.

Shorting is an abomination - worse than CDOs - and without it the TAs of this world and possibly this thread would have a completely different role (or no place at all). It removes the ability of capitalism and markets to select winners.
