Terry Perles: Vanadium Market Could See Increased Demand

"At the Second International Vanadium Symposium & Vanadium Expert Forum,
held in Vancouver from September 28 to October 1 2014, Terry Perles gave an informative presentation on the supply and demand for vanadium as well as his outlook on prices for the metal.

One of the world's most knowledgeable vanadium authorities, Perles noted that most of the world's demand for vanadium comes from the steel industry, where it is used to make high-strength, low-alloy steel.However, he stated that increased usage for the metal in vanadium-redox batteries "certainly has the potential for changing the demand of vanadium significantly."

In terms of an overall outlook for the metal, Perles said, "fundamentally, I think that we're in an environment where the demand is going to continue to grow and we're going to be challenged to figure out where the vanadium units are going to come from in the future." "
