If Tempur Sealy is using Alexicool in their mattresses, then they were telling porkies in this media release in April.

At about 80°F, the molecules within TEMPUR-breeze’s most efficient Phase Change Material (PCM) to-date, PURECOOL+™, activate, shifting from a solid to a liquid to absorb massive amounts of heat. For the first time, Tempur-Pedic’s scientists successfully altered these proprietary molecules to deliver more phase change material, increasing its capacity to absorb heat by 2x compared to other PCM.

Meanwhile, Tempur Sealy’s long-time rival, Serta Simmons, had multiple patent applications published in February, protecting its invention of a polymeric fibre matrix layer that is designed to maintain the firmness or “feel” of memory foam over time whilst also countering the problem of heat buildup. One of the Serta Simmons’ patents specifically covers the use of a PCM coating within such a matrix layer, which can be used in any type of product made from memory foam

The present disclosure overcomes the problems noted in the prior art by providing a bedding product such as a mattress with one or more three-dimensional polymeric matrix fiber layers, wherein at least one of the three dimensional polymeric fiber matrix layers includes a phase change material (PCM) coated thereon.

… the term "bedding product" includes, without limitation, mattresses, pillows, mattress toppers, seat cushions and any product intended to cushion and support at least part of a person. It also includes like items made of memory foam such as that used in mattresses and pillows, such as lumbar supports, back supports, gaming chairs, ottomans, chair pads, benches and seats.

I found these patents interesting in the light of Alexium’s stated launch of Alexicool FM earlier this year.

Alexicool FM is designed for use with memory foam and is described as having tailorable cooling capacity and air permeability and being suitable for mattress, top of bed and transportation.
