We were always going to have a vibrant economy, go look at donut economics, if we caught the wave earlier, like 20 years ago and started to plan for the end of coal. The government (you, if you pay tax and I) will bail out the czars of coal so they don’t suffer any financial loss. Instead of us moving easily from one world to the other, it is going to be unnecessarily painful and wasteful but that is always the way when ideology gets in the way of common sense. The health of the planet is linked to health and wealth of its inhabitants. There are no jobs without a planet, you can’t eat coal. As things stand, if we don’t do something more radical, i.e reduce emissions by 50 to 75% by 2030 we will exceed 1.5 warming. Net zero by 2050 is too late. In this scenario, Australia becomes uninhabitable. You can’t have an economy without a country. Australians will be climate refugees and that day is not decades in the future, if not in our lifetime, certainly our children’s.
