Like a dying person offered an antidote or cure for a fatal outcome, they simply have no choice, but to pay up, because it's a do or die future for them.
This type of scenario may give a preview of coming attractions for those industries, fringe and mainstream legacy, who either secure their future or go the way of used horse and buggy dealers and eventually related accessory vendors, went in the early 1900's.
