Kikker is correct Wazza. Even though Gina is buying the shares from the people/ institutions who took out the short position, the short position is still in play until those shares are bought back and returned to original owner. Gina now owns the shares she bought even though she bought them from people who borrowed them to begin with. The onus is on the people who borrowed them to buy them back at some stage and return them. Our assumption is it is unlikely people would borrow this many shares without a fair degree of confidence they could buy them back lower at some stage.
