Doesn't the whole Gina shorting plan rely on her retaining the shares she has bought from the shorters though?

For her to retain her controlling stake, she needs to keep the shares. So shorters will need to buy back the equivalent number of shares from other sources - roughly 15% of SOI, but their buying pool is significantly reduced given Gina will hold onto her 15%, assume TG etc will hold onto theirs. So shorters need to buy back 15% of SOI from an available pool of....60/50% of SOI? Or less - how many retail holders who have held through this period of $3 are then going to capitulate and sell IF the price falls to even $2 once ALB deal falls through?

Seems to me it puts all the risk on the shorters. Gina secures her shares at a guaranteed price, shorters left to sort themselves out.
