That would be correct if the assumption is that the 96m of shares sold by ALB went exclusively to short sellers. However, it is likely that only a portion would have been acquired by short sellers for that purpose meaning the current short position is somewhat higher than the number you quoted. Hence, they would more than likely still be actively trading today to get more profits.
The sale by ALB doesn't mark the end of the short selling cycle, just an opportunity to take profits and adjust risk exposure(s).
