I wouldn't be so sure it is a prelude to a takeover. More than likely, it is the shorter(s) reassessing their strategy(ies) as even they would concede we are at a turning point with respect to supply/ demand economics. The next trend is most likely to be up - the only question being: when?
This low volume period appears to be simply no action being taken by the trading houses (that drive their trading models). Once they recommence trading activities (i.e. volumes reappear in the market) we are going to see some sizeable moves away from the current share price. I'm betting that next big move will be up..... IMO.
