I reckon you could have stopped after your first sentence.
It is a futile exercise trying to discuss his own points of contradiction and self inflated knowledge. Even when he opens with agreement to your 1st sentence, he follows on with if's and suppositions to maintain his bluster to sound like you are wrong and only he is right. Just for perfomance.
