They were in troubles well before putting the offer on the table. Very probably they wanted Kathleen Valley as a premium for the capital raise they were planning those months.
On which arguments would ALB have walked if they knew the market supply and demand situation and they were still increasing their offer? No, the "they saw the data room and walked away" is not valid: there are no news or facts supporting it.
