Automakers make decissions for several years. Hybrids ARE prevailing this year, but they didn't last year and who knows what will happen next year. Stating that he was right because hytbrids have prevailed is a wrong use of verb tenses. Markets evolve continuously and it takes more than 1-2 years to see if hybrids or full EV will win consumers' choice.

Akio Toyoda has been re-elected as chairman, not as CEO. He is still chairman and in the board because he is successor of the founder of Toyota, and the whole Toyoda family owns about 2 % of the corporation.

Anyone familiar with Japanese way of work would recognise the strong hierarchies they have. Excluding the former CEO from the BoD would had have Akio Toyoda commiting hara-kiri.

Last, Akio's choice weren't hybrids, but hydrogen-fuel cars. That's the reason of his falling.
