Have you not noticed India always buy from the cheapest source, if we are to supply to India, it will have to be cheap. Cheap is China!
India primarily imports lithium from several countries. Let’s delve into the details:

    1. China: India sources a significant portion of its lithium imports from China. China is a major global player in the lithium market12.
    1. Japan: Another key source for India’s lithium imports is Japan. Japanese suppliers contribute to meeting India’s demand for this essential element1.
    1. United States: The USA also plays a role in supplying lithium to India. It is among the top three importers globally, along with China and Vietnam1.
Additionally, there has been a recent milestone for India: the discovery of lithium reserves within its own borders. The Geological Survey of India found approximately 5.9 million tonnes of lithium in the Salal-Haimana area of Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir. This discovery could significantly aid India’s push to increase the adoption of private electric cars and reduce carbon emissions3.
While India continues to import lithium, this domestic discovery represents a positive step toward self-sufficiency in this critical resource
