AFR reported,
"Less than five hours after Liontown Resources announced the withdrawal of Albemarle’s $6.6 billion takeover bid, the lithium junior’s biggest shareholder, Gina Rinehart, was busy setting up a new vehicle for her pivot towards critical minerals.
It was 2.13pm on Monday when the Australian Securities and Investments Commission received the paperwork for the establishment of a new company called Hanrine Future Metals."
She jointly bids for AZS, probably because SQM have made first move, and is willing to partner with her. She had $19.90 billion cash as at 30 June 2023, probably doesn't want cash to sit on the bank account earning little interest. If deployed into a world class project, future return will be multiples.
To some extent, you're right, no one knows what Gina will do, but my thoughts are just personal, and try to be logical.
