A WOODEN asylum seeker boat is attempting to make its way to Western Australia's Pilbara coast after sailing near an oil and gas platform north of Dampier. A Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman said officials had been made aware of the boat early on Friday. Staff at the platform, some 154km from Dampier, notified Customs' Dampier office just before 1.00am of a small wooden vessel with several people onboard, who were waving. "The vessel remained near the floating platform for a period of time but it didn't approach the platform," the spokeswoman said.
