re: miles..asylum seekers cost what a joke I think it is true that private companies view government contracts as a gravy train.

But in the case of the detention centres the government has added to the costs partly by placing them out in the deserts with all the logistics that entails and partly by pandering to the detainees demands for first class treatment, such as comfy beds to burn, top meals, free medical and dental, Pay TV, computers and internet access etc.
