Unemployment rate lifts to 4.4pc
The unemployment rate has risen 0.1 per cent to 4.4 per cent in November as expected.
Official figures show the number of people in jobs across the country fell by nearly 16,000 during the month.
New South Wales faired well with with the unemployment rate easing from 5.3 to 5.2 per cent, in seasonally adjusted terms.
The number of people looking for work in the state also fell during the month.
In Victoria, Queensland and South Australia the unemployment rate has remained steady.
In Victoria is was at 4.4 per cent, in seasonally adjusted terms, but the number of people looking for work in the state has risen.
In Queensland the unemployment rate is at 3.78 per cent in seasonally adjusted terms while the number of people looking for work is also unchanged.
The South Australian results showed the unemployment rate at 5.3 per cent, but the number of people looking for work has risen slightly.
Tasmania's unemployment rate also remained steady at 3.9 per cent, in trend terms, but in seasonally adjusted terms the jobless rate has jumped from 3.6 per cent to 4.5 per cent.
Western Australia and the Northern Territory also experienced a rise in unemployment.
In Western Australia the unemployment rate has jumped from 2.3 per cent to 3 per cent and the number of people looking for work has also risen.
In the Northern Territory the unemployment rate has risen from 3.5 per cent to 3.8 per cent in trend terms and the number of people looking for work has also risen.
The ACT was the only state or territory where the unemployment rate fell, down from 2.6 per cent to 2.5 per cent in trend terms, while the number of people looking for work also dropped.
