The shroud of secrecy in detention centres means whatever child abuse may or may not be occurring remains largely hidden from public scrutiny. This is why court action is so necessary. Deliberate abuse of children as a matter of government policy needs to be tested in our courts.
If our government wants the freedom to abuse children in detention then they need to establish a legislative framework.
