I agree, it is a tricky balancing act between profitability and the benefit of the state. I cant tell you what the salaries of some of those coal miners are, but they are certainly high. I am guessing around $150k+ (@hagetaka you'd have better insight than I) That's twice the median salary, and I would imagine this is something along the lines of 1 to 2 weeks on, 1 week off? So also a lot more "time off" than the average person too.
Anyway, I digress.
