I'm sure the silica was a good possibility providing that Tasmania built a Silicon smelter, without that smelter it isn't worth digging up and shipping around. It looks like the smelter was a pie in the sky dream.
A quick Google search for 'Tasmania "Silicon Smelter" -MHM' and restricting it to the past year returns virtually nothing.
I'm sure the silica was a good possibility providing that...
