The current testing n recording n tracking methodology is not based on a global pandemic, where many vaccines are rushed in dev and shot out the door in record numbers. The methodology you correctly describe is based around having time to deliver, test, record relatively leisurely across national pop over several years. The frantic testing takes place only in hotspot vaccine delivery zones.
Covid19 has made whole countries/regions hotspots and reduced economies in others.....how does a country deliver ASAP national vaccines n conduct parallel efficy testing (in waves) and also conduct infection control testing at the same time? Many national systems are barely even delivering the minimum infection control tests volume needed in a rapid timeframe today.
RDTs will have a role to play now due to this changed paradigm...even if this is only for Covid19 one time disease control....due to the v unique global situation n enormous test numbers involved. Even if its done as a Ab screen test to prioritise folks for lab tests that are not displaying any vaccine reaction, to folks whose Abs are not lasting and so on...
