Well there is also nothing to stop them from combining with existing cloud technology where it suits them to do so. It will obviously take some time to figure out exactly what demand there is and how the technology can be deployed to meet that demand, but as far as I can see, this is a very powerful system.
it is conceivable that you have cheap solar powered devices, interspersed with cloud AI for more complicated/challenging decisions. The nodes could transmit packets of information to the cloud based brain. Reminds me of the human nervous system in fact- and we all know how powerful that can be when used properly.
