Unfortunately what survives of the actual teachings of a messenger such as Muhammad or Jesus as they pass through the inevitable process of dilution, interpretation, corruption and different cultural beliefs, is often far removed from the original intent.

In spite of this, it seems that any serious follower of a religion who somehow or other manages to come into contact with genuine conscience (which could be regarded as God's representative at this level), will not engage in destroying or denigrating fellow humans just because they may have different beliefs and customs.

There are also many who mistake the rules and regulations of their religion as exclusive and absolute and are easily manipulated during those times when madness grips humanity.
