A short article in the AFR from Friday, reports that the ATO is cracking down on contrived arrangements that allow wealthy people with SMSFs to pay no tax on income from shares. The ATO was concerned that arrangements were being entered into by SMSF members whereby dividends were exempt from income tax as they were supporting tax-free pensions.
I do not know what contrived arrangements are in place, but are not most people drawing a super based pension doing this?
