If you read Nevil Shute's 1950 classic "A town like Alice" you will see a passage about lighting the water bore in Willstown. Willstown is fictional but is considered to be Burketown. The well they used to light, if the novel is factually based, was most probably the city water bore in Burketown .....For Shute to dream this up in 1950 would be too much.... form your own view
