uphillnow has kindly posted the data for the top 20 lots. For this sample, total value per momme is US$741 while total value per pearl is US$359. These are respectively 70% and 151% higher than the equivalent data for the top 20 lots in the September auction. For the top 20 lots in September, the number of pieces was actually 15% higher than in November, but total mommes were 22% lower. This confirms that the best quality pearls in the auction are highly sought after in the current market, and command much higher prices than even three months ago. It’s unlikely the demand/supply imbalance is going to change imminently.
