I believe Australia has the same regulatory feature whereby companies are given a “speeding ticket” when their share price rises very sharply without any announcements - so they have to declare publicly if they have any inside info that would account for the share price behaviour. As in the UK, when companies see a dramatic share price increase but are not asked by the regulator to explain, I assume that’s because the share price increase is seen as justified. In the UK, that often leads private investors to continuing buying, until a speeding ticket is issued. It will be interesting to see at what point the share price runs out of steam. My other comment is that ATP looks an excellent long-term hold, with plenty of bullish factors working in its favour, including expanding output over the next couple of years. We might not reach the size of Paspaley, but given our cash generation there must be scope to continue growing the business in the long term. I’m very bullish on the outlook for the company.
