The demand/price frenzy in the past 3 years was based on one market and one market only, China. Even if Japanese dealers purchased inventory from the auction, it was ultimately for the Chinese market. The pearl market in China exploded during the past 3 years, and prices went through the roof. The scale was/is huge. But what happens when they lose interest? What happens when/if the market decides, collectively, to bubble up another product? It is something to consider. Country risk is real. No other avenue of sale would fill the gap should the Chinese stop buying.
