And why invest in banks or BHP when you can just invest in index funds? Why pick individual stocks at all?
What if there's Covid 2.0? What if World War 3 starts? If you're going to have that attitude might as well just buy gold bars, cans of tuna & ammunition instead of stock picking.
China's economy gradually going downhill will affect far more things on a macro level than the ability of a micro-cap pearl producer to achieve decent prices at auction for a niche commodity that still has tailwinds due to a lack of supply being brought on elsewhere in the world.
The fact that ATP's pearl price might have reached an absolute peak at that one auction doesn't really change the fact that they still received a higher price per pearl this month than they did the previous year & have nearly $17 million cash on hand with no debt and a mere $45 million market cap.
Need to treat that one spike as an anomaly and focus on the bigger picture:
There are absolute dog stocks that burn money every quarter on the ASX & have zero path to profitability that are valued more than ten times what ATP is.
Problem is people have zero patience with investing nowadays and if a stock doesn't continue to go up daily or release a price-sensitive announcement once per week, everyone gets paperhands and bails for miniscule profit then wonders why they've been outperformed by people holding index funds at the end of the year...
