Oddly enough I don't feel as though the high oil price was helping ATS get a deal. As many noted at the time, increasing production was not a priority then. The US's massive production now may be more beneficial for Australis since every barrel pumped elsewhere makes their reserves look more attractive.
Current SP now seems to reflect a hopelessness of investors that a deal will be reached rather than a fair value of the company as it stands. They could be right. I continue to acquire when I have some spare cash but understand why others are selling up.
