I don't doubt what you say. Presumably, Commsec are in the process of arranging a different US clearing house. I didn't use Commsec to "transfer" any shares - I did it myself, transferring shares from one US broker to another (that happened to be the clearing house that Commsec uses).
Your problem is likely to be that Commsec has not finalised the arrangement and cannot tell you what US clearing house they will be using. I guess you will need to specify a US clearing house with your request for NewCo shares. My experience is my Australian shares ended up with a mob called AmStock which allowed me to transfer them to the Commsec clearing house and thus ended up being accessible for me.
