FYI, I called commsec again, and so apparently the reason for the conflict of answers is simply because Commsec International normally CAN accept US shares transferred directly from an American US share registry, but just can't at the moment because of some change that has happened, and hopefully will be able to facilitate this again in coming weeks.

Which if they cannot facilitate this if and when the time comes, then we would need to find a broker who can.
