I'd like to know if I may about the "US shares" you trade. I suspect you trade the depositary notes (CDI in Australia) and not the shares proper. To confirm my suspicion, please tell me if my guess is right, that you never receive a welcome email or letter from the company whose "shares" you bought, and you only have communication (email or letter) about those "shares" from HSBC UK.
