Yes, you can't protect people from their own stupidity - I've always been a believer in this. We all do silly things from time-to-time, no matter how much people say otherwise - that goes for all things in life, not just in trading/investing.
Trouble is, many of these people you describe aren't newbies! but maybe they are trying to fleece the newbies....? Some of the numbers that get thrown around on some penny dreadfuls is fanciful at best.
It takes all types I guess.
