This work follows the granting in July 2006 of an environmental clearance for Exclusive Prospecting Licence No 3287 (EPL 3287). West Australian Metals is earning an 80% interest in the Marenica project which comprises EPL 3287. The licence covers 706 sq. km. and is located 60 km north of the Rossing Uranium Mine (Figure 1). The sampling and radiometry program is focusing on Anomalies 1 to 4 in the northeast sector of the licence area (Figure 2). These anomalies cover around 7sq km and are located in the upper-reaches of the Marenica palaeochannel which is interpreted to extend over a distance of 35km within the project area. Anomalies 1 to 4 were discovered and evaluated by extensive trenching and drilling programs in the 1970’s to early 1980’s. Recent reconnaissance of the project area located at least 10 trenches and pits which had not been rehabilitated. Channel sampling, radiometry and mapping of these trenches and pits has commenced. Surface chip sampling of the Anomalies, and other uranium mineralised areas located in the licence area, will also be conducted. Following completion of this program close spaced radiometry will be undertaken over some of the Anomalies where the objective will be to evaluate the intensity, continuity and surface extent of radiometric anomalism. This work, together with the sampling program, will assist in prioritising targets for a planned drill program in the next quarter.
